Credit Unions as Trusted Partners in the Age of Social Change
Heather LaMarre, PhD, MPA, Founder & President, HBM Strategies & Chair, Dept of Communication & Social Influence, Media & Communication at Temple University
As more and more organizations are being forced to take public stances on social, political, and cultural issues, credit unions are being pulled in new directions by internal and external pressures. Understanding and embracing social impact and ESG (environmental, social and governance) movements is fundamental to the new rules for being a successful cooperative in an age of social change. With increasing scrutiny on cooperatives’ public policy statements, social impact scores, and workplace equality indices, social responsibility is rapidly expanding to affect everything from your HR, marketing, and PR strategies to your member benefits, employee retention, and investor relations.
Some members view the credit union’s role as a trusted steward of financial resources and others demand they become leaders in social change. How do board members and CEOs make sense of the headwinds and create new strategies for maintaining trust, building member relations, and making social impact? These and related issues are addressed in this interactive session by sharing data driven insights and the latest research on the current trajectory of cooperatives’ missions aligned responsibility and impact goals. This includes key initiatives and trends affecting members, employees, and community partners.
